Lawyer,aide intimidate client to withdraw case,arrested

Incidentally,Rajput was the victim’s counsel in a suit against one of her friends for allegedly duping her to the tune of Rs 11.75 lakh.

According to the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB),which started investigations following a complaint by the victim last week,Rajput,a resident of Sardarnagar,had made an out-of-court settlement with the victim’s friend. He then roped in his acquaintance,Vankar,to intimidate his client over phone.

Rajput bought a new SIM card for the purpose and promised to pay Vankar a sum of Rs 3 lakh if their mission was accomplished,said Assistant Commissioner of Police,DCB,

Usha Rada.

She said the caller threatened to rape and murder or throw acid on the victim’s face if she did not withdraw the case.

“The victim used to receive most of these threat calls in the presence of Rajput and she never suspected him. But she intimated us and we started our investigation,” said Rada. The DCB first tracked Vankar,whose interrogation led to the arrest of Rajput.

The two have confessed to having committed the offence in the lure of making a fast buck,the DCB said. Investigations have further revealed that Rajput has a total of 16 criminal cases like robbery,loot,cheating and theft filed against him in various police stations in the city,while Vankar is an accused in a murder case. The

two will be produced before a local court soon.
