Land grabbing case against Ashish Joshi: Case is ‘attempt to break morale of Harni boat victims’, VMC corporator’s wife submits affidavit
Joshi’s advocate Hitesh Gupta said, “The affidavit has been filed by Joshi’s wife, Vaibhavi, who is the owner of the house that is in contention"

In the ongoing case of alleged land grabbing against VMC Corporator Ashish Joshi, invoked days after he was suspended from the Bharatiya Janata Party for “damaging party image”, Joshi’s wife Vaibhavi on Monday filed an affidavit before the Vadodara District Collector and and District Magistrate, stating that the notice issued to her husband was a “sustained effort to break the morale of the Harni boat victims” as Joshi “owns no property” in the residential society located adjacent to the government land in question.
In the affidavit, Vaibhavi stated that she is the lawful owner of the property located in Ratilal Park, where the corporator resides with his family and that she had “been issued no notice” regarding land grabbing while her husband “who has been a pillar of support to Harni boat victims since January 2024”, has been issued a notice to “pressurise… following the suspension from the (BJP) party”.
The affidavit states that since the time Joshis purchased the property in August 2009, the land on the south side of the property has been open, on which, no construction has been made. Vaibhavi has said, “We have not constructed any compound wall after purchasing the property and that the existing compound wall is an encroachment that was never brought to our notice earlier by way of any notice issued by the government…”
The affidavit states that after receiving the first notice on May 14 to remain present for the hearing in the case of alleged land grabbing, Ashish Joshi appeared before the District Magistrate at the designated time on May 17 and was told that a portion of 135 sq meters on the south of the property, the compound wall, has been erected as an “encroachment”. Stating that the notice issued to Joshi is “false”, Vaibhhavi said that it should be “withdrawn, as it is equal to double standards by the government”.
Joshi’s advocate Hitesh Gupta said, “The affidavit has been filed by Joshi’s wife, Vaibhavi, who is the owner of the house that is in contention. She has stated on record that she has received no notice to the effect that the compound wall is an encroachment and in any case, there is no construction on that part, which has been in the same condition since they purchased the property… On Sunday, the compound wall was broken down and a notice put up in public interest, stating that the land belongs to the government.”
When contacted, District Collector and District Magistrate Anil Dhameliya told The Indian Express that the affidavit filed by Vaibhavi Joshi was “under consideration”. Dhameliya said, “There has been a clear encroachment on the said land by the parties, who have been served notice”.
“In the property (where Ashish Joshi resides), the compound wall has been extended into 135 square meter of the government land and name plates bearing both Vaibhavi and Ashish Joshi’s names have been put up on the compound wall. The fact that they have demolished the compound wall, in itself shows that it was an encroachment… Since Vaibhavi Joshi’s affidavit has been received only on Monday evening, it is under consideration and the next action will be decided accordingly,” Dhameliya added.
