Jashvantsinh Parmar: Surgeon and ex-rebel
According to local BJP leaders in Godhra, the surgeon’s nomination has come as a "surprise", especially since he maintained a low profile after his reinduction. Parmar himself termed it a "pleasant surprise" Wednesday.

A general surgeon from Godhra of Panchmahal, Dr Jashvantsinh Parmar is a popular OBC leader. The 47-year-old had rebelled against the party and fought as an independent against sitting MLA C.K. Raulji in the 2017 Assembly elections and polled 10.54 per cent votes from the Godhra seat.
The contest earned him a five-year suspension from the saffron party. However, he returned to the party-fold in 2022.
According to local BJP leaders in Godhra, the surgeon’s nomination has come as a “surprise”, especially since he maintained a low profile after his reinduction. Parmar himself termed it a “pleasant surprise” Wednesday.
“This is a pleasant surprise but also a big responsibility. I accept this responsibility and will fulfill my duties. Due to the good governance of the BJP, Panchmahal is no longer a backward district but in the coming days, whatever problems arise in the district, I will raise the questions as the representative,” he said.
Parmar’s father, Salamsinh, was a government school principal and an active BJP worker, while his mother was the chairman of the executive committee of the Panchmahal district panchayat as a BJP member.
Parmar, who runs a medical centre called Bhagyoday Surgical Hospital, is also known to have RSS roots. He is an alumnus of BJ Medical College, Ahmedabad. “I have been a ground worker of the BJP and my selection has brought much joy to my supporters, other OBC leaders as well as my patients, who I have known personally… I have been a practising doctor for over 23 years, and I have personally interacted with about 20 lakh people,” he said.
