Iron tablets with mid-day meals lands Vadodara school girls in health centre

Three teenaged girls at a Limkheda-based secondary school had to be rushed to the nearby Community Healthcare Centre (CHC) after they showed reactions to the iron tablets given to them on Wednesday afternoon along with their mid-day meals.

village were given iron folic tablets. Three of them,aged between 12 and 14 years,complained of severe stomach ache and dizziness and had to be rushed to the CHC.

Dr R D Pahadia,Block Health Officer,Limkheda taluka,Dahod,said: “We suspect that the reaction took place because the girls possibly took the tablets on empty stomach,which led to acidity.”

He added that the girls stay in the nearby village and had taken food early in the morning and had skipped their lunch in the afternoon.

“The iron folic tablets are given every Wednesday to decrease the anaemia level among young girls,” he further said.”

The girls are now in a stable condition.
