Complaint filed against Panchamrut dairy chief
VADODARA: The registrar of cooperative societies has lodged a police complaint against former BJP MP and chairman of Panchamrut Dairy Bhupendrasinh Solanki for misutilisation of funds. The Godhra B Division police said the complaint is in addition to the two previous complaints against Solanki in which the dairys funds were utilised to purchase cattle for the Lunawada farmers.
The complaint states that Rs 85 lakh was used from the dairys funds to purchase 850-odd cattle for the farmers while the dairy was given a grant by the various agencies, said a police officer. Solanki and former Managing Director R S Patel are already facing corruption and cheating charges for irregularities in the audit of the dairys accounts while disbursing funds of Rs 64 lakh to at least 400 cattle rearers in Jhalod of Dahod district.
Fire breaks out in slum
Surat: A major fire broke out in the slums of Navsari bazaar in Surat on Wednesday evening. Fire Brigade personnel from different zones rushed to the spot and rescued several people trapped inside huts. Over 25 huts were gutted in the blaze. The police also reached the site to monitor the situation. Officials said no casualties were reported,though they are still trying to find out the cause of the fire. Fire officials said,previously,access to Navsari bazaar was difficult.
AHMEDABAD: A 41-YEAR-OLD ex-serviceman was booked for molesting his neighbour in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. Police said the accused,Kishor Ramanuj alias Raju,molested one Arti Thakore when she was drying clothes on his terrace. When the victim shouted for help,neighbours gathered at the spot and beat up Ramanuj. Inspector V H Dindor,who is investigating the case,said: In his interrogation,Ramanuj claimed he did not molest the woman. He said the residents had some problems with him,so they planned to beat him up and spoil his reputation.
Adani issues notice to terminate power deal
AHMEDABAD: The Adani Group has issued a notice to the Gujarat government for terminating a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) inked in 2007 for the supply of 1,000 MW power,Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (GUVNL) said. The PPA was signed following a competitive bidding and Adani Group had committed to supply power at Rs 2.35 per unit for 25 years. A senior GUVNL official said: Adani Group has given us a notice terminating the PPA and now we have approached Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC) with a petition. The official added: Now the matter is pending before the regulatory commission,which will decide on its merit. But officials in the state energy department said the reason for scrapping the PPA is related to fuel supply. An official said: When the PPA was inked,Adani Group was expecting coal supply from the Gujarat Mineral Development Corporations coal block in Chhattisgarh. But the same could not materialise,forcing the group to back out from the deal. ENS/PTI
