Top cop warns against use of chemicals on Holi
The city police commissioner has issued a notification,warning against the use of dirty water,strong colours and chemicals among others on Dhuleti (Holi) on March 1. The notification,which will be in effect from February 24 to March 2,says the police will act strictly on complaints in this regard.
In another notification,the police said the devotees walking to the Dakorji Temple on Holi should not be disturbed. It added that the vehicular traffic between Jashodanagar Crossroads and Vinzol Octroi Naka will be restricted.
The traffic from Jashodanagar will be diverted to Naroda Crossroads and the expressway between February 25 and March 1. Also,carrying weapons like knives,swords,sharp tools,sticks,pistols and any product that can catch fire or cause explosions will be prohibited in the city for the next few days. Government officials who carry arms for security have been exempted. The police have also put restrictions on protests,rallies or public speeches that may hurt religious sentiments.
ONGC discovers oil and gas in Vadodara
Vadodara: The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has discovered oil and gas from a well drilled in Karjan taluka of Vadodara district.
It is difficult to say about the quantity of availability of gas and oil (right now) and it may take one month to estimate it, sources said on Friday night.
This is a new site where ONGC has started drilling a well and preliminary results give a hope of huge quantity of oil and gas in this area, they added.
The oil and gas was spotted from this well after digging around 550 meters, they said. After the discovery of oil and gas in Ankleshwar oil fields and Gandhar in neighbouring Bharuch district,ONGC had started drilling this site.

Inox develops cryogenic tank for ISRO
VADODARA: Inox India Limited,a Vadodara-based engineering company,which is into manufacturing of the cryogenic equipment and tanks,has designed,developed and will manufacture a Liquid Hydrogen cryogenic tank for Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) project.
Sources said Inox has grabbed this prestigious project for ISRO. This tank will be used for carrying the liquid Hydrogen,which is used as rocket fuel,from its manufacturing site to the rocket launch pad.
General Manager Inox India Limited Sudhir Sheth said: We were given this challenging job in 2009 and in one year we completed this highly complex project with the help of engineers and scientists from ISRO. The Liquid Hydrogen tank is first of its kind to be manufactured in India and has got a storage capacity of 15,000 litres. This tank was handed over to the Dr MYS Prasad,associate director of Sriharikota Range (SHAR) at Inox Indias Kalol Plant.
Rajkot administration readies for census 2011
RAJKOT: The district authority has started preparations for census to be carried out from April by holding a training camp at the Rajkot collectorate. The Census of India has planned to commence the first phase of the 2011 headcount in Gujarat from April 21. A team from the state capital had visited the collectorate yesterday and met the officers concerned to brief them on how to conduct a door-to-door survey. District collector and municipal commissioner will be the chief census officers in their respective areas,while deputy collector will be their deputy.
Three held for theft
The Vastrapur police today arrested three youths in separate cases of car and cellphone thefts. Siddharth Singh (19),a resident of Goyal Intercity on the Drive-in Road,was arrested for stealing a Mercedes-Benz from outside SAL Hospital. The police said Singh is from a well-to-do family and stole the car to show-off in his college. In another case,one Faizal Sheikh from Navrangpura and Vikram Thakore from Ashram Road,were arrested for stealing mobile phones and Rs 11,000 from a Honda Activa parked outside a temple.
