The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate rain for Gujarat for the coming week even as the conditions are favourable for the withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon from the state this week, the normal date for which was forecasted as September 15.
“The line of withdrawal of southwest monsoon passes through Sri Ganganagar, Nagaur, Jodhpur, Barmer. Conditions are favourable for further withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon from some more parts of Rajasthan, Punjab and Gujarat during next two days,” IMD stated in the forecast issued Monday evening. However, the weather department issued a heavy rainfall alert for the South Gujarat region, including districts of Navsari and Valsad till Tuesday 8.30 am.
There is a forecast of light thunderstorm with lightning and surface winds at 30-40 kmph accompanied by light to moderate rain in Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod and Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Dwarka, Gir Somnath, Botad and Kutch, according to the department.
On Monday, rain lashed a few places in the South Gujarat region and at isolated places in the North Gujarat region and Saurashtra. Dang district’s Subir recorded the highest rain at 44 mm within two hours, 6am till 8 am, on Monday. Chikhli and Gandevi in Navsari district recorded 35 mm and 12 mm rain, respectively while Valod in Tapi received 11 mm rain till Monday 6 pm, according to the department.
