In what has been marked as the first-of-its-kind feat, the Comprehensive Lactation Management Center (CLMC) of SSG Hospital in Vadodara in Gujarat has become the first in India to receive the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) certificate, as per the 2021 standards, the hospital said.
Since its inception in 2019, the CLMC or the human milk bank has registered over 9,015 donors, it added.
The hospital, in a release on Saturday, said that the empanelled NAQS external assessors declared that the human milk bank at SSG “met all criteria” for the certification and had an overall score of 91 per cent.
As per a letter of the Joint Secretary of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to the Additional Chief Secretary (H&FW), Gujarat, the assessment was undertaken on May 27.
“The CLMC Vadodara is granted ‘Quality Certification’. The certified health facility should strive to work on recommended areas of improvement and submit an action plan to the State Quality Assurance Unit. The State Quality Assurance unit is expected to verify the improvement in the surveillance..,” the letter states.
The CLMC scored 100 per cent for services for collection, processing, storage, and dispensing of donor human milk as well as for providing the services in a dignified manner and ensuring privacy and confidentiality with respect to cultural and societal preferences.
