The Ahmedabad Crime Branch officials in a joint operation with Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force and Uttarakhand Police arrested history-sheeter and wanted accused in loot cases of Ahmedabad, Vishal Goswami, and three others of his gang on Friday in two different operations.
While a police team arrested main accused Vishal and his brother Ajay Goswami from Mathura in UP, another police team arrested two other gang members, identified as Rinku Goswami and Pritam Goswami, from Rudrapur in Uttarkhand. The police also seized two pistols and live cartridged from them.
The gang members were on the run after an alleged firing on jewellers on CG Road in Ahmedabad on March 13.

Ahmedabad Police Commissioner Shivanand Jha said, “The Crime Branch officials have been hunting for the Vishal Goswmai gang from the time the first case of loot and murder of jeweller Prakash Soni was witnessed in the city. We had to fire on Vishal as he tried to escape from the spot. He was shifted to a hospital after sustaining bullet injuries on legs.”
Earlier, the crime branch officials had arrested 10 of his gang members last year. However, Vishal and his brother were evading arrest and operating the gangs in Gujarat, Maharashtra, MP and UP, the police said.
“The gang had attacked four other jewellers in the city. Besides the cases in Gujarat, the gang is wanted in loot cases in Bangalore and Madhya Pradesh too. The crackdown on the gang is a big success for the Ahmedabad police,” Jha said.
