Amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas war, RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale on Thursday said that the Hindu community did not “treat badly” people from Israel and Iran, who settled in India several years ago due to the ancient, ingrained principle of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (the world is one family), for which India has now become a beacon to the world.
Hosabale, who was addressing the ‘Vasti Sangam’ of Vadodara city, added that India had the “right to impart learnings of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” during the G20 summit to the world, as it has “lived (by) the phrase” since ancient times.
On Israel, Hosabale said, “Look at what is going on in Israel… many years ago, they (Israelis) came to India and stayed here without any discrimination… Similarly, Iranians came here, and we have Parsis living here, especially in the western coast in Gujarat. The Hindu community in India treated them (outsiders) like brothers and sisters… Members of the Parsi community are given respect and status in India…,” he added.
“We are not a country or community that discriminates. It is evident from the fact that when we have an Asian Games gold medallist, we do not ask which caste or creed the person belongs to before we celebrate the victory… During Covid-19 lockdown, when thousands of migrants were walking back home, they were given food, clothing and footwear. We did not ask them their castes or religions…,” Hosabale said.
