Heavy rains continue to lash south Guj

The heavy downpour in Surat and other parts of south Gujarat in the last 24 hours has resulted in several incidents of short circuit and uprooting of trees in the city till Wednesday evening.

The showers are likely to continue on Thursday,as the Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains in the next 24 hours.

The residents of Navsari and Valsad witnessed flood-like situations on Wednesday,while several other areas in Limbayat like Azadnagar,Kamrunagar,Aaspassnagar remained inundated in water. Rise in the water level in creeks have also been reported.

Surat Municipal Corporation officials have,meanwhile,rescued the affected families and shifted them to safer places.

Between 8am and 6pm on Wednesday,Surat city received 95mm rains,Bardoli 81mm,Choryasi 88mm,Kamrej 87mm,Mahuwa 61mm,Mandvi 31mm,Mangrol 35mm,Olpad 17mm,Palsana 120mm and Umarpada 19mm.

Several areas in Valsad town were also found inundated. In Valsad district,the city recorded 140mm of rainfall during the day,Pardi 171mm,Dharampur 181mm,Kaprada 218mm and Umargam 214mm. The water level of Madhuban dam has touched 71.30 feet,eight feet below the danger level.

Heavy rains also lashed Navsari district,where two major rivers Mindola and Ambika were overflowing.
