Harsh Sanghavi added it is a matter of great pride that over 4,600 shooters from across India are participating in this championship in Ahmedabad (X/@sanghaviharsh)Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi inaugurated the 34th GV Mavlankar Shooting Championship (Pistol Events) at the Ahmedabad Military and Rifle Training Association (Rifle Club) on Friday.
The national-level championship, being held from October 31 to November 13, has drawn participation from over 4,600 shooters representing all corners of the country — from Jammu and Kashmir to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and from Gujarat to Manipur.
Commending the Ahmedabad Military and Rifle Training Association, the Deputy Chief Minister said Gujarat is now fully prepared to help realise the sporting dreams of athletes nationwide. With the support of the Central Government, Gujarat has developed several world class sports facilities in recent years, he added.
Referring to the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex, he said under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi and the guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, a world-class sports facility was completed in just 28 months.

The competition includes 10m, 25m, and 50m pistol events, which are recognized Olympic disciplines.
The championship was first instituted in 1991 by the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) in memory of GV Mavlankar, the first Speaker of the Lok Sabha and the founding President of the NRAI. Ahmedabad is hosting this championship for the tenth time.
