A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBl) court in Ahmedabad Tuesday sentenced two people to rigorous imprisonment (RI) of three years in connection with a 2012 corruption case.
The special judge for CBl cases also slapped a total fine of Rs 40,000 on the then Food Corporation of India (FCI), DO, Rajkot manager Yogesh Harivadan Patel and another accused, Punit Jaysukh Solanki.
According to the CBI statement, based on a complaint, the central agency had registered a case against the accused on December 22, 2012. According to the complainant, Patel had demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 5,000 in lieu of clearing the bills of the firm managed by the complainant.
Solanki had accepted the bribe amount on behalf of Patel, said the CBI statement. Both accused were arrested on December 23, the same year, and searches were also conducted at Patel’s residential and official premises.
The Central Bureau of Investigation filed the chargesheet on September 20, 2013. The chargesheet was filed against the accused persons for “demanding and accepting illegal gratification and criminal misconduct committed by the accused public servant” and against the private person “for abetment of the offence”.
After trial, the court found them guilty and sentenced them accordingly.
