Sources in the Techno City police said all four persons were admitted to a nearby private hospital. Two of them are in critical condition.A 27-year-old man was arrested Monday for allegedly vandalising three vehicles after their drivers did not stop to heed to his demand of handing him a mobile phone “to make a call”. He broke the windscreens and windows of two private vehicles and an autorickshow with a fire extinguisher cylinder, officers at Gotri police station in Vadodara, who made the arrest, said.
Police said that Dheeraj Kanojiya is an undertrial in a murder case registered with Panigate police station, and is currently out on interim bail till February 2.
The incident took place around 9 am Monday on Gotri-Bhayli Road. Assistant Commissioner of Police Ashok Rathava said, “A passerby called the police control room (PCR) to report an ‘attack’. After a PCR van reached the spot, we were informed that the man had been asking drivers to stop as he wanted a phone to make a call. As no one agreed, he began attacking the vehicles.”
Kanojia has been booked under BNS sections 118 (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 296(b) (uttering obscene words), 351(2) (criminal intimidation) and 324(4) (mischief, thereby causing loss or damage of upto Rs 20,000).
“We are investigating into the matter. The accused had suffered head injuries and was taken to a hospital. He was arrested after his injuries were found to be minor. He seems to have removed the fire extinguisher from an ambulance,” Rathava said.
Police also said that Kanojia will undergo psychological tests. Following his arrest, the Vadodara city police also initiated a process to get his interim bail cancelled.
