Gujarat MLA Chaitar Vasava to remain in judicial custody for 2 more weeks
Gujarat High Court adjourned the hearing on his regular bail plea to August 28

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Chaitar Vasava from Dediapada will continue to remain in judicial custody at Vadodara Central Jail for two more weeks. The Gujarat High Court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing on his regular bail plea to August 28, based on the request of a lawyer who appeared for the original complainant in the case.
Chaitar, who was arrested on July 5 following an FIR lodged against him for an alleged murder attempt, by Dediapada taluka BJP president Sanjay Vasava, had moved the High Court for bail after the Narmada Sessions Court rejected his plea on July 14.
The sessions court had considered an argument of the prosecution that the MLA had “committed the crime while being out on probation” in a previous case in which an FIR was lodged in November 2023 in Dediapada police station for alleged extortion and assault of forest department officials. On Wednesday, Justice MR Mengdey of the Gujarat High Court considered the request of the lawyer appearing for the complainant to grant time for filing a response. Sanjay had lodged the FIR at Sagbara police station following a clash during a meeting at the Dediapada prant office, where he allegedly asked Chaitar to refrain from using “unparliamentary words” against a female leader.
