Gujarat: Man kidnapped from garment store, thrashed to death by rival gang

Days after he was booked in a case of attempt to murder, a man was kidnapped from the garment store where he was working and thrashed to death allegedly by the rival gang on a road at Meghaninagar in Ahmedabad on Friday.

Nitin Patni was kidnapped from the garment store in Kagdapith area, taken to Meghaninagar and thrashed with pipes and sticks by the rival gang, police said. He died during treatment at a hospital. The video of the gang thrashing the man has gone viral on social media. The accused had fled in two auto rickshaws by the time police reached the spot. Kagdapith police registered an FIR for abduction and murder against six persons based on a complaint filed by his brother, Akshay.

Of the six accused, three persons – Vijay alias Batto Prema Vaghela, Sailesh Ramsingha Gautam and Punam Virchand Patni – were arrested, K’ Division ACP Y A Gohil said, adding that two auto rickshaws had also been seized. Nitin was booked for attempt to murder in an FIR filed three days ago by Meghaninagar police after he and his co-accused had allegedly thrashed a member of the other group.

The entire incident is part of a circle of violence between the two gangs, said police officials. Police launched a hunt to apprehend the remaining accused.
