Gujarat Local Body Election Results 2025 Live Updates: With results announced for the local body elections in Gujarat, the BJP registered a landslide victory, winning 65 Municipalities, 3 Taluka Panchayat seats, and a Municipal corporation, among several other seats where bypolls were conducted. “We won with clear majority in 60 Municipalities and in five Municipalities, independent candidates had extended their support, so our party will form boards and run all 65 Municipalities,” state BJP president C R Paatil said, while calling the results “historical”.

Voter turnout in local body polls: For the local body polls in Gujarat, the voter turnout was recorded at at 44.32 per cent for Junagadh, 61.65 per cent for the municipalities, and 65.07 per cent for the taluka panchayat polls. This election also saw the implementation of 27 per cent OBC reservation and a 50 per cent reservation for women in local bodies.

BJP won 215 seats unopposed: The voting for Gujarat local body polls took place on Sunday, February 16, and the Bharatiya Janata Party won 215 seats unopposed, accounting for nearly 10 per cent of the total contested seats. Out of the total unopposed victories of the BJP, 196 seats belong to municipalities, 10 to district and taluka panchayats, and nine to Junagadh Municipal Corporation.

Gujarat Local Body Election Results 2025 Live Updates: Samajwadi Party makes major gains in Porbandar municipalities that went to polls

The Samajwadi Party made major gains in the two Porbandar municipalities which went to polls on Tuesday, winning 20 of the 28 seats in Ranavav municipality and 14 of the 24 seats in the Kutiyana municipality where the youngest son of the late 'Godmother' Santokben Jadeja, Kana, made his debut. His elder brother, Kandhal Jadeja, is the SP MLA from the Kutiyana seat, having won it on the party ticket for the first time in 2022.

Before this, Kandhal was an MLA representing the same seat from the undivided Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). The victory for SP is important, given that it might upset the BJP's chances in Kutiyana. In Kutiyana, Dheliben Odedara has been the municipality president since 1995, earlier from the Congress, and later after switching to the BJP a decade ago. Although Odedara managed to retain her seat, the BJP lost its majority.

The Bharatiya Janata Party received majority in all three municipalities - Valsad, Pardi and Dharampur - in Valsad district However, the BJP rebel candidates also managed to secure some seats. In a first for the Dharampur municipality, four BJP rebels secured a victory for independent candidates. In the Valsad municipality, the BJP won 34 out of the 37 seats, with Congress securing one and two being bagged by independent candidates In the 2018 elections, BJP had won 25 seats, while Congress bagged 9. The independent candidates 10 won ten seats, later extending support to the BJP.

Gujarat Local Body Election Results 2025 Live Updates: BJP wins Junagadh Municipal Corporation polls

The BJP emerged victorious in the Junagadh Municipal Corporation (JuMC) elections winning 40 of the total 60 seats even as the Congress improved its tally winning 11 seats and the remaining one seat going to an independent candidate. Eight of the seats were won uncontested by the BJP, and thus elections were held on 52 seats.

Junagadh was the only municipal corporation scheduled for regular polls among the eight municipal corporations. The Congress had won only one seat in the 2019 elections while the BJP had swept the polls winning 54 of the 60 seats with four seats going to the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

The last election marked a significant shift in favour of the BJP as compared to the 2014 election when the BJP had won 41 seats, Congress 16, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) two and while one seat had gone to an Independent.

Junagadh municipality was accorded the status of a municipal corporation in 2001-2002. The BJP had captured power in the maiden JuMC election held in 2004. However, the subsequent 2009 election was won by the Congress, even as the BJP returned in 2014.

Gujarat Local Body Election Results 2025 Live Updates: 2018 local polls recap

In 2018, of the 75 municipalities that went to polls, the BJP had won 47 while the Congress had won 16, with the NCP and the BSP emerging, gaining a majority in one each. Six municipalities saw a coalition, and four municipalities were run by Independents, who formed a board together.

Gujarat Local Body Election Results 2025 Live Updates: Uncontested victory for BJP in Dwarka

In Dwarka Municipality, the BJP panel of four candidates each has emerged winners in wards 1 and 2, while wards 3 and 4 were already won by the party uncontested ahead of the polling day.

Gujarat Local Body Election Results 2025 Live Updates: BJP, independent candidates take the lead

In Wankaner in Morbi district, 13 candidates were declared uncontested winners at the start of counting. This includes 11 from the BJP and one each from the Congress and BSP. The contest for the remaining 15 seats is on, with the BJP and the Congress seeing a tough fight in the wards. So far, the BJP has won five of the 15 seats while Congress has won four, and Aam Aadmi Party has also emerged as the winner in one seat in ward no. 3 in Wankaner.

In Devgadh Baria Municipality in Dahod district, with 24 seats in six wards, three Independent candidates have emerged winners along with five BJP candidates and one Congress candidate so far.

Gujarat Local Body Election Results 2025 Live Updates: BJP wins Halol, Wankaner municipalities

As the counting commenced, the BJP was declared the winner in the Halol and Wankaner municipalities. In Halol Municipality in Panchmahal district, the BJP had already won 19 out of 36 seats uncontested. Elections were held for 17 seats, of which five BJP candidates were declared winners early Tuesday morning. The BJP, thus, has retained the Halol Municipality for a consecutive term.

Gujarat Local Body Election Results 2025 Live Updates: BJP rebel candidate wins from Ward 3

In Karjan Municipality in Vadodara district, BJP-rebel candidate Digvijaysinh Atodariya, who contested as an AAP candidate has won from Ward 3 while 11 other candidates of the BJP have won so far.

Gujarat Local Body Election Results 2025 Live Updates: BJP wins 401 seats

As per the state Election Commission data, the BJP has won 401 seats and is leading in 552 seats. The Congress, which has claimed that it is “fighting against odds” with Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee president Shaktisinh Gohil, alleging that the BJP was using its “might and money power to pressure Congress candidates”, has won 25 seats and is leading in 42 seats. The Bahujan Samaj Party has won five seats, while Independents have won 23 seats so far, as per the data.

Gujarat Local Body Election Results 2025 Live Updates: BJP takes steady lead

While the BJP, which had already emerged in the lead in at least eight Municipalities, having won 162 seats uncontested prior to the February 16 polls, the Congress also won one seat uncontested while other parties have won four seats uncontested.
