Primary school teacher’s contribution to education recognised with state awardJignasa Prajapati has over 18 years of teaching experience.

Jignasa Prajapati, a 39-year-old primary teacher at Dingucha Primary School in Gandhinagar district, has been selected for the prestigious State Best Teacher Award.

With over 18 years of teaching experience, Jignasa has been making significant contributions to education in her community. Since joining the school in 2007, she has been instrumental in introducing innovative teaching methods, leveraging technology, and utilising educational tools to ensure that all 300 students at the school receive a high-quality education. Her dedication and commitment to her students have earned her a place among the top 30 primary and secondary teachers in the state, who will be honored on National Teachers’ Day.

The village of Dingucha, known for its significant migration to the United States and Canada, made international headlines in 2022 after a family froze to death while attempting to cross the Canadian-US border illegally in 2022.

“During Covid, I ensured that the education of the children remained unaffected. So, when schools were closed during the lockdown , I prepared the learning material and went to their homes to teach them in small groups as everyone did not have an Android. For others I prepared and recorded 155 lessons which I posted on my YouTube channel. With the help of Samagra Shiksha Gandhinagar, 77 video episodes were recorded and aired on DD Girnar,” Jignasa Prajapati told The Indian Express.

Admitting the high migration rate, Jignasa said the support to the school from the villagers has always been encouraging. Through public participation, the school managed to collect cash donations worth over Rs 20 lakh and various items useful to the school, said the teacher.

“The school has been performing well during Covid and otherwise too. The teacher also runs a campaign for de-addiction and prevention of superstition among other activities. This has also resulted in improved female enrollment. Keeping all these contributions in sight, the state selection committee shortlisted her for the state award,” Gandhinagar District Education Officer (DEO) Bhagvanbhai Prajapati told The Indian Express.

Along with Jignasa Prajapati, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will award 29 other teachers on September 5 during the celebration of National Teachers Day. These teachers have been selected based on the recommendations received by the district level committees, said sources.
