Former state Congress president, Siddharth Patel has asked to declare the state as drought-hit following the failure of the monsoon this season.
In a statement released on Saturday, he demanded that the government should waive off the electricity bills for agriculture as also irrigation levy for the current season.
The Congress leader also demanded total waiving off interest on agirculture loan for the current year as farmers have lost their crops due to failure of monsoons.

Suggesting that the water available in dams be used judiciously, Patel said that the efforts be made to ensure benefitted the most from the dam water.
Stating that prices of agriculture commodities were rising continuously, but its benefits did not reach the farmers because it was cornered by middlemen, the Congres leader said that arrangments should be made for benefitting the farmers from price rise.
He also demanded payment of compensation to farmers hit by the floods in Amreli and Banaakantha districts in the month of July this year. Patel also demanded 80 per cent of subsidy on seeds for winter crops.
