While attending a blood donation campaign organised by industrialist Maulesh Ukani to mark his 60th birthday, Gujarat BJP president C R Paatil Sunday threw a name that might be in the reckoning of the party for the Rajkot Lok Sabha constituency in next year’s general elections.

“There was news that Mauleshbhai is going to be taken to Lok Sabha (by the BJP). If he is willing to come, then we will take him for sure. But Mauleshbhai himself has announced that those doing the service (as MP) are doing fine and there is no need to change,” Paatil said as the audience broke into laughter.

BJP MPs Mohan Kundariya, Rambhai Mokariya and party MLA Darshita Shah were also on the stage. The party sources identify Ukani as an industrialist who has been a BJP well-wisher.

Former media convener of Gujarat BJP Harshad Patel, who is currently the vice-chancellor of two state universities – Indian Institute of Teacher Education and Children’s University – was appointed to the Board of Management of Gujarat Vidyapith (GV) as a member in June 2022 and later, a trustee in January.
