Sports and Culture Minister Ramanlal Vora normally sports a serious appearance. However,he revealed his jocular vein during the awards function of Gujarat Sahitya Academy in Ahmedabad. He told the audience that he is unable to read books people present to him. I do leaf through those books in their presence and promptly put them aside, never to open them again,as they turn their backs on me. This I do because I have no time to read due to official work. When I will have plenty of time (you know why),people will have no time to visit me, he said, amid peels of laughter.
CMs favourite
During the awards function of Gujarat Sahitya Academy,a book that drew a lot of attention was Hamare Narendrabhai, written in Hindi by Dinesh Desai. As the title suggests,it sings praises of Modi and his government. Published in 2011,it was adjudged second in the essays category and won Rs 7,000 as prize. Desai came out with his first book at the age of 20 in 1988. Lady luck smiled on him after Modi selected him for his flawless language and placed him in the state Information department.
Nothing official about it
A new Deputy Superintendent of Police in Ahmedabad had a tough time reaching the police headquarters as he couldnt locate Shahid Smarak where the Police Commemoration Day was being observed on Monday. The officer managed to reach the place after the event was over. He was not only reprimanded but also asked to visit all police units in Ahmedabad to be able to locate them faster. The DySP,who was embarrassed and upset for being pulled up in front of colleagues, claimed that if he had a written communication on the event,it could have helped him to locate the place. His case drew attention to a problem that some officers reportedly face not getting official communication.
Woman power
Even as Karva Chauth trended on Twitter on Tuesday, the BJPs Gujarat unit made a small yet significant tweet that stood out from the rest. The partys official Twitter handle wished all women: To Nari Shakti of India,we wish you a very happy Karva Chauth. This very north Indian traditional day-long penance by women for their husbands is,incidentally, not as followed in Gujarat as its other version,Vad Savitri, where married women do a similar day-long fast. While the Gujarat BJP was prompt in sending its message, official Twitter handles of BJPs Punjab and Haryana units were silent. Interestingly, the partys Gujarat unit has a Punjab connection its IT team head and Ahmedabad-based cosmetologist Rajeeka Kacheria has roots in that state.
