Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel to hold aerial inspection of rain-hit Saurashtra districts today
As the IMD has forecast widespread rain across Gujarat till Saturday, the Sardar Sarovar Dam is 55% full while 141 reservoirs in Saurashtra have 46.4% water storage.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will on Tuesday go for an aerial inspection to take stock of the situation in Saurashtra’s rain-affected Devbhoomi Dwarka and Jamnagar districts, even as a high alert has been sounded for 31 overflowing reservoirs in the state.
According to the State Emergency Operation Centre, rain battered Saurashtra and southern districts, with Kalyanpur in Devbhoomi Dwarka recording the highest rainfall, at 281 mm, majorly within four hours on Monday.
The chief minister will reach Jamnagar by flight at 3.45 pm and from there proceed for an aerial inspection of the rain-affected areas by helicopter. He will hold a meeting with officials of the Devbhoomi Dwarka district administration and related departments to review the situation.
On Tuesday, Nakhatrana in Kutch district received 69 mm of rain within four hours—from 6 am to 10 am—along with 85 other talukas in the state that reported rain.
Other talukas that received heavy rain include Waghai (47 mm) in Dangs, Vansada (47 mm) and Khergam (47 mm) in Navsari, Ahwa-Dang (45 mm) in Dang, Dharampur (43 mm) and Pardi (43 mm) in Valsad, Subir (41 mm) in Dang, Visavadar (37 mm) in Junagadh and Mundra (34 mm) in Kutch.
The India Meteorological Department on Monday issued a red alert for at least six districts and an orange alert for eight others as widespread rain is expected across the state till July 27.
As a result of the heavy rain, 31 reservoirs have been put on a high alert. Fifty-five per cent of water storage has been recorded in theSardar Sarovar Dam, which currently has 1,83,724 million cubic feet of water. The 206 reservoirs of the state have 2,23,685 MCFT of water, which is 39.93 per cent of their total capacity, according to the water resources department.
According to a report from the department, more than 15,000 cusecs of water has been recorded in eight reservoirs as a result of the rain. Twenty-nine dams are 70-100 per cent full, 19 dams are 50-70 per cent full and 50 dams are 25-50 per cent full.
The report further said that 46.4 per cent of water has been stored in 141 reservoirs of Saurashtra, 42.55 per cent in 13 reservoirs of South Gujarat, 35.10 per cent in 17 reservoirs of Central Gujarat, 32.36 per cent in 20 reservoirs of Kutch and 26.5 per cent in 15 reservoirs of North Gujarat.
