Groups clash in village in Ahmedabad,sarpanch dies

Clashes broke out between Bharwad and Koli Patel castes in Ahmedabad district on Monday leading to the killing of former sarpanch of Lolia village in Dholka town of the district.

Clashes broke out between Bharwad and Koli Patel castes in Ahmedabad district on Monday leading to the killing of former sarpanch of Lolia village in Dholka town of the district.

The incident occured around seven in the morning after a spat between the victim,Vijaysinh Chavda,and his alleged rival Raghu Hari Bharwad.

The police said Vijaysinh was surrounded by six Bharwads who beat him with sticks as he passed from the village field. The Koli Patels who came to rescue Chavda were also injured. Two of them were shifted to local hospital in Dholka while one was shifted to Ahmedabad civil hospital.

According to police,Chavda and Bharwad had become enemies after village panchayat elections in 2006 which Chavda had won and become the sarpanch.
