The state government Saturday demolished an under-construction bungalow allegedly being built by a history-sheeter on encroached land in Jamnagar with Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi saying the government has decided to act instead of merely paying lip-service.
Local revenue officials demolished the under-construction bungalow of Razak Saicha, who has a few dozen criminal cases registered against him, in Bedi area Saturday. “The bungalow was being constructed on a piece of government land. The government had issued Saicha notices to remove the structure. Today, the structure was demolished by the government under police deployment,” Premsukh Delu, superintendent of police (SP) of Jamnagar, told The Indian Express.
According to the SP, the demolition began in the morning and went till late in the evening. “There was no resistance to the drive. Currently, Saicha is in judicial custody after being arrested by City ‘B’ Division police station of Jamnagar for driving a woman, who was teacher at a private school, to suicide,” he said.
According to him, notices have also been issued to two other “illegal” houses belonging to the family members of Saicha.
Later, when asked about the demolition, Minister Sanghavi, who was in Godhra of Panchmahal district, said, “What is there to say in this matter? There is nothing to say (in such cases), but to do.”
