In view of the implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations, the state government has decided to pay the arrears to all its temporary employees — including those attached to the ministries — in cash in January next year.

State Finance Minister Vajubhai Vala said this in response to a short notice tabled in the Assembly on Thursday. He said since the temporary government employees do not have a Provident Fund (PF) account, they will be paid arrears in cash, while the regular employees will have their arrears deposited in their respective PF accounts.

Vala said there are about 4.96 lakh government employees in the state.

The government will have to entail an additional burden of Rs 6,883 crore in arrears due to the implementation of the Pay Commission’s recommendations, while its annual recurring expenditure would be Rs 2,896 crore,he added.
