Over 5,000 hectares of land will be acquired in Bharuch district as the fourth phase of acquisition gets underway for the Dahej PCPIR (Petroleum Chemicals and Petrochemicals Investment Region),which is among three such regions in the country.

The Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) had acquired over 10,000 hectares in the first three phases at the PCPIR. “There is a proposal to acquire an additional 5,000 hectares of land in the next couple of years,” GIDC vice-chairman and managing director B B Swain told The Indian Express.

The land is currently been acquired from private land owners at Rs 370-440 per square metre. In April, the GIDC had raised the prices of developed land at Dahej to Rs 1,020 per square metre from the Rs 750 earlier — a hike of 30%.

Besides Dahej, two other PCPI regions are being set up at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and East Midnapore in West Bengal by the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers under the PCPIR policy of 2007.
