From mobile apps to post cards to call centres, parties go all out to woo voters

With the elections scheduled for next week, BJP is relying on its call centre to motivate people to vote for the party.

From developing mobile applications to reaching out to voters through call centres and good old post cards, political parties in the city are making use of a variety of means to ensure that they reach every voter.

The Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee (CTCC) is set to launch a mobile application on party candidate Pawan Kumar Bansal which would have all information about him, along with the work that he has done. An additional feature would be a facility which can be used to call for help. Five numbers can be stored. In case of any problem, the person can press a button on the mobile and a message for help along with the location will reach the numbers.

Apart from this, a short film has been prepared on Bansal’s tenure which will be screened in different sectors. Proposals are on the anvil to distribute pocket-size information booklets about Bansal along with film tickets at some malls. Congress spokesperson Pardeep Chhabra said that the party is connecting with the voters in a number of ways.

“Unique ways of campaigning are being adopted. Apart from interacting with the voters at a personal level, which is important, the party is also connecting through other means, including launching a new mobile application,” he said.

Meanwhile, the city unit of AAP is pursuing a unique campaign with postcards bearing hand written messages. Workers are busy writing messages on post cards in the Sector 21 office. An AAP volunteer Gurjusjit Singh said that partymen were also making calls, seeking support for Gulkirat Kaur Panag.

The BJP is relying on its call centre that was set up a few months back in Mohali. Initially a “Missed Call” campaign was initiated under which anyone interested in joining or supporting BJP can give a missed call on the number. Representatives from the youth wing of the BJP would then contact the person and inform him about the vision of prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

With the elections scheduled for next week, calls are now being made to motivate people to vote for the party. City residents were informed about Modi’s rally through the call centre. BJP president Sanjay Tandon said, “From conveying information about programmes to seeking votes for Kirron Kher, a number of activities are taking place through the call centre. Party workers were sent to the houses of the people who wanted information about Narendra Modi’s vision or wanted to join the party.”
