Fire breaks out in AAP corporator’s Surat house, his son dies of asphyxiation
Doctors at SMIMER hospital said that the boy had suffered minor burns but died due to asphyxiation.

The son of an AAP corporator died of asphyxiation after a fire broke out in their home in Anand Dhara society at Mota Varachha in Surat early on Friday. AAP’s Punagam West corporator Jitendra Kachhadiya had gone to Ahmedabad when the incident took place.
The deceased has been identified as Prince (17). Chief fire officer Basant Pareek said that the fire broke out on the first floor of the two-story house around 1.30 am on Friday and spread to the other floors.
Police said that while Jitendra’s wife Anita was sleeping alone her son’s Meet (21) and Prince (17) were in separate bedrooms. Jitendra’s younger brother Natu stays with his family on the second floor. “Anita first noticed the fire and raised an alarm but by then, the fire had also extended to the second floor. They all rushed to the terrace but smoke had engulfed the entire place. They then tried climbing the adjacent wall to reach the next house,” police said, adding that Anita told them that his younger son Prince couldn’t be found.
Pareek added that they reached the spot immediately after getting the call. “After dousing the flames, we found Prince lying on the floor in a room. He was rushed to SMIMER hospital where doctors declared him brought dead,” he said, adding that most likely the fire was a result of short circuit.
Doctors at SMIMER hospital said that the boy had suffered minor burns but died due to asphyxiation. While the Kapodara police lodged an accidental death case into the incident, FSL teams have also started investigating the case.
Meanwhile, local AAP leaders and party workers reached Kachhadiya house and offered condolence. The deceased was cremated in the evening.
