The idea of zero period seems to have done the trick for the students of Dangs district, which recorded the highest pass percentage of 91.95 in this years Gujarat HSC Board exams. Among the exam centres with the highest pass percentage,Siddhpur town in Patan district topped the list with 98.88 per cent.
The district education officer (DEO) of Dangs, which has 94 per cent tribal population, had made it mandatory for Science teachers to take extra classes,as the district was not performing well earlier.
Dangs DEO R R Patel said,During zero periods, teachers were asked to provide guidance to the students for the Board exam. The students were briefed about different sections of question papers and made to solve the same.
As the number of students was not more than 40,it helped us to give personal guidance to them, he added.
The district has four science schools and 170 Science stream students had registered for the exams this year. The school timing was from 11 am to 5 pm,but teachers were encouraged to come an hour early for extra class. The teachers provided them counselling and personal guidance, Patel said, adding that almost all students who cleared the exam this year from Dangs are tribals.
On the other hand,Narmada district yet again ended up at the bottom of the district-wise list with pass percentage of 54.66. This is,however, better than its last years result of 36.69 per cent.
