The first electrification work on the high-speed rail corridor between Surat and Bilimora stations in Gujarat has commenced, said a statement issued by the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL).

The statement issued on Thursday said, “The electrification work for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor has begun, with the first two steel masts erected on the viaduct at a height of 14m from the ground level in between Surat- Bilimora Bullet Train Stations in Gujarat”.

The NHSRCL said that the 508-kilometer stretch from Ahmedabad to Mumbai will see a total of over 20,000 masts, ranging from 9.5 to 14.5 meters in height, installed along the corridor.

“These masts will support the Overhead Equipment (OHE) system, including overhead wires, earthing systems, fittings, and associated accessories, forming the complete 2×25 kV overhead traction system for the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Corridor suitable to run the Bullet train,” the statement said.

The 2X25kV system is based on the idea of distributing the voltage along the line at higher voltage (50kV) and feeding the train at 25kV.

The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited further said even though they “conform to Japanese standard design and specifications”, the OHE masts, promoting the Make in India policy, are manufactured in India.
