The promise of financial relief and a job made a labourer from Rajkot appear in the Class IX science exam as a dummy student on behalf of his friend. The Malaviyanagar police have arrested the dummy while a hunt for the actual student is on.
The police said the case was reported from the Sardar Patel Vidhya Mandir in Mahudi on Thursday during the first paper of the exam. School principal Kishor Bhensaniya suspected the authenticity of the receipt and the ID produced by Vijay Rajpara during the Biology paper.
On examining the matter the school authorities found that Dadaniya, who has studied up to class XII,had come to appear in the class IX exam on behalf of Rajpara.
Based on a complaint by the school, the police registered a case of cheating and conspiracy under sections 420,419,465,467 and 120-B of the IPC against the two.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that Dadaniya (20),a resident of 150 Feet Ring Road, had borrowed Rs 500 from Rajpara.
They said Rajpura had reportedly promised to waive the debt if Dadaniya appeared in the examination on his behalf. Rajpara also promised to get a job for Dadaniya through his father,a physiotherapist.
The police said Rajpara is a native of Wankaner and has been living as a PG in Rajkot. Dadaniya, who had cleared the Class XII science exam with 48 per cent marks in 2004,worked as a labourer at a factory.
