‘Don’t trust my mother and father,they are dangerous’

Rubina and Javid had fled to Buldana in Maharashtra five days ago but returned to Surat after Rubina’s father Burhan Shaikh promised to get them married and even fixed their wedding for Monday,the day Rubina was killed.

“We returned to Surat hoping for a bright future together. Our wedding preparations had started in Surat. We had no idea what Rubina’s father had in his mind. My mother and father had even bought clothes for our nikah which was to take place at Noorani Mosque in Azad Nagar slums. A qazi was ready too,” Javid said fighting tears.

“Rubina never wanted to come back to Surat. In fact,she had told me we would not keep in touch with her parents after we got married,” said Javid,recounting the two years of their courtship.

“This was the first time in two years we stayed together for five days. Her father look down upon us since we were not as affluent as them. Two months ago,when my parents sent my marriage proposal to them, Rubina’s father told them he would kill his daughter than let her marry me,” Javid said,adding that Rubina’s family hailed from Beed district in Maharashtra.

Khatodara police have arrested Rubina’s father Burhan. They have also arrested Burhan’s son Sadik who allegedly attacked Javid with sticks after the incident. Trying to save Javid,his father Shaikh Yusuf got injured in the process and had to be rushed to hospital.

Assistant commissioner of police Vidhi Choudhary said Burhan had confessed to killing his daughter.
