Mohammed Hanif Dalubhai, one of the eyewitnesses in the 2002 Deepda Darwaza riot case,on Wednesday named two BJP leaders for inciting a mob to burn houses during the communal violence,in the Mehsana special court.

Mohammed Hanif Dalubhai, one of the eyewitnesses in the 2002 Deepda Darwaza riot case,on Wednesday named two BJP leaders for inciting a mob to burn houses during the communal violence,in the Mehsana special court.

The duo has been identified as Prahlad Gosa,BJP MLA from Visnagar in 2002,and Dayabhai Patel, party’s Vishnagar taluka Panchayat member at that time.

P R Agrawal, public prosecutor in the case, said: “According to the witness, both were present when the mob started gathering to torch one of the houses. The duo told the mob to go ahead and torch the entire mohalla (society) and not just one house.”

He further said that as per the witness, both Gosa and Patel were also present when some of the victims’ relatives later in the evening had gone to the police station.

“Dalubhai also mentioned that both were asking the police to register complaints about rioting and not murder.”

Agrawal said the revelations made by Dalubhai were important and the prosecution may file an application in the court to include the names of both Gosa and Patel as the accused in the case.

Earlier, another witness Shabbirmiya Hasumiya had asked the SIT to investigate both Gosa and Patel’s role.
