Taking the first step towards Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors’ Summit (VGGIS) to be held in January 2011,the Gujarat government on Thursday organised a meeting in Delhi,where ambassadors,high commissioners and diplomats from over 20 countries were present.

State Industries Minister Saurabh Patel gave a detailed presentation on the Gujarat’s investment proposition,which was followed by an interactive session with the dignitaries. CII will be the national partner for the biennial summit.

“The Vibrant Gujarat Summit will be much more than just business. The summit will showcase the opportunities for investment in Gujarat,” he said.

Sources said representatives from the UK,Japan,Canada,Russia,Poland,Oman,the UAE,Sri Lanka,Ghana,Nepal,Bangladesh,Thailand,Uganda,Mauritius and Austria attended the meet.

Earlier in the day, Patel said the government has lined up nine delegations,comprising industrialists and senior officials who will be visiting 27 countries to seek global participation in the summit.

“The government is deputing senior secretaries to visit focus countries to meet their prominent industrialists and diplomats to extend the invitation to participate in the event,” said Patel.

He added that following the success of Vibrant Gujarat meets,the state is being positioned as South Asia’s premier platform for discussion of the issues affecting the investment ecosystem.

Rs 12 lakh crore through signing of over 8,500 memoranda of understanding (MoUs).

Sources said as compared to 2009,when as many as 39 delegation had attended the event,the state is aiming to attract about 65-66 delegations this time. Moreover,the number of delegates,which stood at 600 in 2009,is also being increased to 1,000.
