Senior election officials hold review meeting for south Gujarat Deputy Election Commissioner Vinod Zutshi and Gujarats Chief Electoral Officer Anita Karwal on Saturday instructed district officials of south Gujarat to keep a close watch on illegal transactions of money and liquor meant for wooing voters in the poll-bound state. The election officials chaired a review meeting at the district collectorate here,which was attended by administration officials from Surat,Navsari,Valsad,Tapi and the Dangs along with the superintendents of police of the respective districts. Zutshi emphasised the need for tight security arrangements and strict vigil to check supply of liquor from outside Gujarat. For this,he said,police should be deployed at all the entry and exit points of cities and districts,and if need be,SPs can coordinate with their counterparts in the neighbouring states. He said that anybody found carrying more than Rs 2.5 lakh in cash must be questioned about the money and if they fail to give satisfactory answers,the police will have the right to seize the amount. On the preparation of voters list,Zutshi said the final list will come out by August 31. If a voters name is not found in the final list,the person can contact election officials and re-apply with necessary documents, he said. He expressed satisfaction over the election work done by the Surat administration,as the district has topped in the state in registering voters (over 2.25 lakh). We are happy with the tremendous work done by election officials of Surat. The officials will prepare a list of notorious people who might create problems during the polls or may threaten the voters. Police will pick them up in the morning (during elections),so that people can cast votes peacefully, Zutshi said. Deputy Election Commissioner G B Mungalpura said,We have set up 30 voter facilitation centres with permanent phone numbers in different talukas of Surat.
