One more farmer committed suicide in scarcity-hit Saurashtra on Saturday reportedly due to crop failure. With the latest case reported from Rajkot,the total number of such incidents in the region has reached six this season.
Rajkot city police said 80-year-old Vala Mod had consumed poison on Saturday and died at a local hospital in the early hours of Sunday.
Police said Mod had sown groundnut over five acres of land that he owned near Morbi road. On Saturday,he came back from the field and told his grandson that their crops had failed completely and that he had consumed poison. He was rushed to a local hospital where he died.
Of the six suicide incidents involving farmers reported so far,three have taken place in Amreli district.
