A magisterial court from Amreli district on Saturday asked the Amreli district police to explain why it did not name Cabinet Minister Dileep Sanghani as accused in an FIR registered in connection with an alleged attack on an RTI activist from the district.

A magisterial court from Amreli district on Saturday asked the Amreli district police to explain why it did not name Cabinet Minister Dileep Sanghani as accused in an FIR registered in connection with an alleged attack on an RTI activist from the district. The court has also asked the district police to explain as to why the charge of conspiracy has not been added to the FIR.

According to the details available,Nathalal Sukhadia – an RTI activist from Devadiya village of Amreli district – was allegedly attacked by six persons in his farm on June 25.

Talking to The Indian Express,Sukhadia’s lawyer Kamlesh Mehta said in his complaint before the police,Sukhadia had stated that the six accused clearly told him that they had been asked by Sanghani to beat him because he was raising a lot of RTI queries with reference to the minister.”

“However, when the police registered the offence as an FIR,they neither named Sanghani as the accused nor inserted a conspiracy charge. So,we challenged this before the Magisterial Court in Amrel,” Mehta said.

Six persons have been arrested in the case.

According to Mehta, acting on their application, the court of chief judicial magistrate of Amreli has asked the district police to explain,in 14 days,as to why did they not name Sanghani as accused in the case and why no conspiracy charge was mentioned in the FIR.

Further hearing has been posted for July 14.
