Cops asked to watch Modi live and record proof that they did

When Chief Minister Narendra Modi delivered his speech at Gujarat Police Academy at Karai and Police Training School in Vadodara on June 11 and June 12,respectively,police personnel across the state were instructed to listen to his speech that was being relayed in police stations through state government’s Gujarat State-Wide Area Network (G-SWAN),leaving little scope for absenteeism.

When Chief Minister Narendra Modi delivered his speech at Gujarat Police Academy at Karai and Police Training School in Vadodara on June 11 and June 12,respectively,police personnel across the state were instructed to listen to his speech that was being relayed in police stations through state government’s Gujarat State-Wide Area Network (G-SWAN),leaving little scope for absenteeism.

A circular to this effect was issued from Gandhinagar,instructing senior police officers to ensure at least 80% attendance was maintained in all police stations when Modi was delivering his speech. The circular,a copy of which is with The Indian Express,also instructed police stations to record as a proof that 80% presence was maintained at respective police stations.

A circular number G-1/SCR/Passing Out Parade/835/2012,dated June 10,reads: “Every police station is informed to take benefit (of the relay of Chief Minister’s speech) by maintaining 80% attendance.”

Another circular stated: “At 7 am on June 11,Gujarat Police Academy at Karai will organise passing-out parade in the presence of the Chief Minister. Police Training School (PTS) in Vadodara will also organise passing out parade at 7 am on June 12. BISAG-1 will telecast the show.”

“All the police stations are instructed to live-telecast the parade. Police commissioners have issued instructions that a video of all police stations when the parade is being watched there live be made and sent to district police headquarters as a proof of attendance,” the circular said.

It also said in case of any technical glitches during the live telecast,police stations should contact certain numbers for help.

In his speech at PTS in Vadodara on Tuesday,Modi had said that the state police was the most “tech-savvy” police force in the country today and it was mandatory for every policeman to learn computers.

Vadodara police commissioner Satish Sharma said special arrangements were made at police stations to view such live telecasts whenever there was a need.
