Mahisagar: 13-year-old student stabs classmate after quarrel over recess, accused referred for counselling
‘There needs to be a strict directive to schools regarding the safety of children,’ said the victim’s father

A 13-year-old boy from Class 8 of a government primary school on Thursday evening allegedly stabbed his classmate, also 13, at least five times with a knife following a quarrel over who would exit the classroom first during recess, in Mahisagar district’s Balasinor town, said police on Friday.
The incident comes close on the heels of the case of a Class 10 student succumbing to stab injuries allegedly inflicted by a Class 8 student in a school in Ahmedabad city on Wednesday.
Officials of the Balasinor police station have lodged an FIR in the case and referred the child in conflict with law (CCL) for counselling while the victim is undergoing treatment for his wound.
According to the Mahisagar district police, the incident took place at dispersal time, around 5pm on Thursday on the school premises. The victim was allegedly attacked by his classmate near the main gate of the school as he was leaving for home, according to the police. After school hours, the attacker pulled out a knife and stabbed his peer multiple times in the waist, abdomen, back and left arm, said the police.
According to the police, the school teachers, who had also arrived at the gate, intervened and managed to separate the attacking student from the victim. Later, the victim was rushed to a private hospital, where he is undergoing treatment, said police.
Meanwhile, the victim’s father said, “He has sustained five stab wounds on his left arm, waist, back and abdomen area. The doctors have said that he is stable but we are worried… There needs to be a strict directive to schools regarding the safety of children.”
The FIR has been lodged at Balasinor police station under BNS Sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 118(1) (voluntarily causing hurt using grievous weapons) , and 352 (intentional insult with the intent to provoke a breach of peace) as well as under the Gujarat Police Act.
Mahisagar Superintendent of Police Jaydeepsinh Jadeja told The Indian Express, “Based on the complaint of the victim’s father, we have lodged the FIR. The accused student and his parents have been referred for counselling. The child in conflict with law will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board as per procedure…”
