A case was registered Thursday after a severed head of a cow was found in the posh area of Pal in Surat.
Police later found that a stray dog had left the head on the road after picking it up from a nearby ground.
“After checking a number of footages, we have found that a stray dog had brought the head from an open ground nearby. There are several cattle sheds in the vicinity and we have started checking them,” said Pal inspector K L Gadhe.
The head was found by a passerby on the main road near LP Sawani Road near Rajhans Wings apartment in Surat Thursday morning, police said. The locals then informed the police who then arrived at the spot and examined the severed head.
The police registered an FIR against unknown persons under 196 (promoting enmity between different groups on the grounds of religion, race and place of birth) and 325 (mischief done for killing, poisoning and maiming the animals) and also under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
