Senior BJP leader and deputy sarpanch of Kothav village in Vadodara's Karjan taluka, Rajni Patel, on Friday allegedly died by suicide by consuming poison. Rajni, who was also the vice-chairman of Karjan APMC, died four days after the husband of Kothav sarpanch also ended his life by consuming poison. The Karjan police station has registered a case of accidental death and begun a probe into the two suicides. Rajni allegedly succumbed early Friday at his residence in Kothav. His family members rushed him to a private hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. Sources in the BJP said that Kothav sarpanch's husband Suresh Patel and Rajni were close friends and had even travelled together to Jammu and Kashmir recently along with other members of the Karjan APMC. Suresh had allegedly consumed poison on July 9. Vadodara rural police said it is "yet to ascertain" the trigger behind Rajni's suicide, as no note has been recovered yet. Rajni, also a member of BJP state executive working committee, is survived by his wife and two sons.
