BJP leader among six held for ‘gambling’ after raid at Bharuch farmhouse
Fatesinh Vasava, who had contested on a Congress ticket from the Jhagadia Assembly Constituency in the 2022 Gujarat polls, had joined the BJP shortly after the elections

Six persons, including a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, were arrested in a recent raid conducted by the Bharuch District Crime Branch at a farmhouse for allegedly carrying out “gambling activities for personal financial gain”.
The Bharuch Crime Branch on Sunday said that Fatesinh Vasava, along with five others, had been found indulging in gambling activities when the raid was conducted Friday night at the farmhouse owned by the leader.
Acting on a tip-off that “Fatesinh was indulging in gambling activities for personal financial gain by running a gambling den at his farmhouse in Vataria village, where several persons had gathered from outside to place money bets”, the night patrol team of the Bharuch district police raided the farmhouse.
According to the statement from the Bharuch district police, during the raid, the police found six persons, including Fatesinh, and also seized a total cash of Rs 4.18 lakh, including the money that had allegedly been placed on bets.
Besides Fatesinh (45), the other accused include Divyakumar Vasava (32), Ashwajitsinh Rathore (38), Mukesh Bhoi (35), Jaspal Singh Sikligar (36) and Mehulkumar Dave (45). A seventh accused, Dinesh, has been declared wanted in the case.
Fatehsinh, who had contested on a Congress ticket from the Jhagadia Assembly Constituency in the 2022 Gujarat Assembly polls, had joined the BJP shortly after the elections. In the 2022 election, Fatesinh had taken on seven-term MLA Chhotubhai Vasava and the BJP’s Ritesh Vasava. Ritesh Vasava had won the seat for the state’s ruling party for the first time, upsetting Chhotubhai who was contesting as an Independent.
While Fatesinh’s arrest has become a topic of discussion among the political circles in Bharuch, the BJP is yet to decide the further course of action.
When contacted, BJP Gujarat media convener Yagnesh Dave told The Indian Express, “We are aware about the case against Fatesinh Vasava. We have informed the party about the same… A further course of action will be decided.”
