Babloo Srivastav’s aide Montu alias Visheshwar Mishra got conditional bail from Surat court on Saturday in a case of threat call made by him through Voice Over Internet Protocol to alleged hawala kingpin Afroz Fatta, after his shooters fired wrong person from point blank range. Montu will still remain in judicial custody as another attempt to murder case of Amjad Dalal is still pending.
Police investigations indicated that on directives from Srivastav, Montu and two of his sharpshooters did a recce of Fatta’s home and office and made a plan to kill him. On March 28, the sharpshooters opened fire from point blank range on Amjad Dalal in Adajan area, believing him to be Fatta, since the two resemble.
After the firing incident, Montu along with his two sharpshooters went to Mumbai and later to Uttar Pradesh. On the next day, Montu learnt that his shooters had fired on wrong person and Fatta was still alive.
Montu made VOIP call to Fatta and threatened him saying “Abki baar bach gaya, agli baar nahi bachega (This time you got lucky, but may not be always)”. Police claim that Montu had made two such calls on Fatta’s mobile phone to threaten him. A complaint in this connection had been lodged at Rander police station by Fatta.
Montu was arrested by Surat police from Uttar Pradesh and he was brought to the city for his alleged involvement in the firing incident on Amjad Dalal and giving threat to Afroz Fatta. Currently, Montu is in the judicial custody.
Few days ago, Montu’s lawyer Kalpesh Desai filed a bail application on behalf of him with Judicial Magistrate First Class court of K C Mangani. After arguments, the Judge on Saturday granted conditional bail of Rs 15,000 to Montu.
Defence lawyer Kalpesh Desai said, “Police put confessional statements of Montu before court with no circumstantial evidence. There is no capital punishment in such threat cases. Keeping this in mind the Judge had granted him conditional bail. There is one more attempt to murder case levelled on Montu, so he will remain in judicial custody till he gets bail in the second case.”
