(File photo)The train services of Ahmedabad Metro on the East-West corridor between Apparel Park and Old High Court were affected, following a theft of copper cables on Thursday morning, according to a statement.
The services on the affected section were restored in the afternoon after the cables were replaced.
An FIR in connection with the theft of around 500-metre-long copper cable was registered with Shahpur police station under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The estimated worth of the stolen cable is Rs 9 lakh, said sources.
The East-West corridor of Ahmedabad Metro runs between Vastral and Thaltej Gam.
Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Limited (GMRCL), the company that operates the services, in a statement said, “In the East-West corridor of Ahmedabad Metro, the train services were affected in the morning between Apparel Park to Old High Court due to theft of cables last night between Shahpur to Old High Court Section. However, the train services were available between Vastral Gam to Apparel Park and between Old High Court to Thaltej Gam stations.”
“The GMRCL staff with the help of Ahmedabad Police and other contracting agencies has worked on war footing and restored the affected section by replacing the cables at 13:26 hrs and regular train services were restored at 13:37 hrs on East-West corridor as per regular train operation schedules,” said the statement.
The GMRCL also stated that the train services in the North-South corridor remained unaffected. The North-South corridor runs between APMC Market and Motera Stadium. The FIR has been registered with police by an employee of the GMRCL.
According to the FIR, the theft was committed by an unidentified person between 5.30 am and 6.15 am Thursday by scaling the steel bridge between Shahpur and Old High Court stations. It added that the unidentified person had cut the cables, used to supply power to the trains, with a sharp edged tool. A senior police official said that investigations are ongoing in the case and they suspect the culprit to be a person with technical knowledge.
