The quantum of diesel provided under the “Diesel VAT Relief Scheme” for fishermen using mechanised fishing boats has been raised, the state government has said.
According to an official statement on Thursday, the state government currently gives 100 per cent relief on the VAT (Value Added Tax) for mechanised fishing boats that are less than 20 meters in length. Under the scheme, relief is provided through a fixed quota of diesel to fishermen based on the horsepower of the fishing boat’s engine.
Raghavji Patel, state minister for fisheries, stated that the quantum of subsidised diesel for boats with 1-44 horsepower has been increased to 300 litres trip-wise, compared to the current 250 litres.
Similarly, for boats with 45-75 horsepower engines, the diesel quota has been raised to a maximum of 600 litres from the current 500 litres.
For boats with 75-100 horsepower engines and for 101 horsepower or more powerful engines, the quota has been raised to 4,200 litres from the present 4,000 litres.
