A multi-national power and automation technology company,ABB India Limited, has expanded its base in Gujarat by launching two new facilities at Savli near Vadodara that will manufacture products for power transmission and distribution companies.
The new units, which is set up in about 1,500 square metres at Savli GIDC industrial area, will produce high-voltage switchgear and distribution transformers that will be targeted mainly at delivering transmission and distribution solutions for both the local and export markets,Bernhard Jucker, head of ABBs power products division, said at the launch function at Savli.
The launch of the new facilities at an investment of Rs 250 crore coincides with the golden jubilee anniversary of the multi-nationals presence at Maneja in Vadodara, the largest of the companys 12 locations in India.
The new facilities employ 130 people,he said. The company has also supplied power equipments, including inverters,to the Bombardier which manufactures coaches of the Metro rail projects in Delhi and Bangalore at its facility also set up at Savli GIDC. The ABB is also the bidder for power solutions to the upcoming Ahmemdabad-Gandhinagar Metro Rail projects.
The units will produce high-voltage switchgear to meet domestic and export demands and cater to the growing needs of the power sector of the country,Jucker said. The other facility will produce dry-type and oil-immerse transformers which can reduce environmental impact and can be deployed in environmentally-challenged conditions.
Managing director of the ABB India,Bazmi Hussain said that the company was looking to providing power solutions to the upcoming Metro rail projects, and would like to do so for the upcoming Ahmemdabad-Gandhinagar Metro Rail projects, though nothing specific had come out so far in this direction. The company was looking increasingly for localisation, optimising products for the local markets. When asked how much of the products were being supplied to Gujarat,Hussain said the company did not keep any state-wise market details.
