Following the pre-monsoon rains last week,there has been a spate of snake bites in the city. A 60-year-old woman,who was undergoing treatment of snake bite at the New Civil Hospital,died on Tuesday night,while two other persons were admitted. The woman,identified as Shanti Patel,a resident of Olpad taluka,was bitten on her knee when she was entering her house on Monday morning. She was rushed to a nearby hospital by her family members and later shifted to the Surat hospital,where she died. In two other incidents,one Rajkumar Verma (40) was attacked by a snake at Bhestan on Tuesday morning,while Ravi Rajbhar (24) was bitten when he was sleeping in his house at railway colony in Hazira the same morning. Both of them were taken to the civil hospital by their family members after receiving preliminary treatment at nearby private clinics. Their condition is reported to be critical. Last week,a 40-year-old woman had died of snake bite at Olpad taluka in Surat district.
