At 46.2 degrees, Rajkot records its highest temperature of season; Saurashtra and Kutch districts under heat wave alert

Rajkot recorded its highest temperature of the season as the mercury reached 46.2 degree Celsius — five degrees above normal temperature – on Monday.

The temperatures are likely to remain high this week in the region with a heat wave alert for Rajkot, Surendranagar, Morbi and Kutch till Tuesday, said the weather department.

“No large change in maximum temperature during the next five days; thereafter, fall by 2-3 degree Celsius very likely over the region. Maximum temperatures are very likely to be in the range of 40-45 degree Celsius over Gujarat between April 28 till May 1,” the India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated in its forecast.

Kandla Airport too crossed the 45 degree mark with 45.1 degree Celsius temperature followed by Surendranagar at 44.8, Amreli at 44.1, Ahmedabad 44, Gandhinagar 43.2, Bhuj and Bhavnagar at 42.2, Deesa at 41.6, and Vadodara at 40.6 degree Celsius.

The weather department has also issued an alert against “discomfort conditions” due to hot and humid air very likely to prevail over the coastal areas of South Gujarat region and Saurashtra-Kutch from Monday till May 1 (Thursday).
