23-year-old man held for harassing, slapping woman in Surat: Police

A 23-year-old man was arrested on Monday after he allegedly harassed a woman and slapped her outside a hospital in Surat on May 8.

The accused has been identified as Pankaj Patil (23), a resident of the Dindoli area in Surat.

According to the FIR, the woman, 40, had stepped outside a hospital where her sister was admitted when the incident took place.

As per the FIR, “On the afternoon of May 8, the complainant came out of the hospital to buy tea when a man on a bike made objectionable remarks. When the woman resisted, the man slapped her on the face. When the woman screamed for help and passers by rushed to her aid, the accused fled from the spot.”

A few hours later, the man again approached the woman outside her workplace and harassed her, the FIR added.

The woman informed her brother, who is posted in BSF, about the incident. The brother then informed his friend who took the woman to the police station to lodge a complaint on May 10.

Accused Pankaj was arrested from Dindoli area in Surat.

Athwalines police inspector H K Solanki said, “We have arrested the accused based on the vehicle registration number. He will question him to get more details.”
