As many as 2,17,489 offences have been registered against commuters in the state for not wearing a helmet, stated data published by the Gujarat Road Safety Authority in the Annual Administrative Report and Audit Report for 2021-22, which was tabled in the Assembly on Thursday.
While 1,95,620 offences were registered against drivers for not using a seat belt while driving, 1,04,749 offences were lodged for using cellphones while driving.
However, the number of people injured in road accidents saw a dip – from 27,650 in 2012 to 13,690 in 2021. But the figure jumped to 15,136 in 2022.
